Auto Insurance and the Risky Driver

insuranceHave you had a number of tickets or accidents recently? Have your Louisiana auto insurance rates gone up as a result? Have you had your auto insurance cancelled due to your, or a member of your family’s, driver record?

Key Auto Insurance terms to know

“Non-renewal”- A non-renewal means only that your insurer does not want to offer you a policy any longer. Non-renewal can be due to a number of reasons, including your driving record.

“Cancellation”- Auto insurers can cancel your auto insurance policy at any time if you fail to pay your premium, lose your driving privileges, or have not accurately reported the facts relating to your level of risk. Auto insurers are required to give you notice of these decisions.

Auto Insurance for High Risk Drivers

According to the Insurance Information Institute (III), drivers fall into one of the following categories:

·           Preferred: Drivers with outstanding driving records.

·           Standard: Average drivers with good driving records.

·           Nonstandard: Young, inexperienced drivers and drivers with many tickets and accidents or a reckless or drunken driving history. These are high-risk drivers.

There are special markets that provide insurance for high risk drivers. Like every other major purchase it pays to shop around. As an independent agent we can do that for you. Risky drivers do have limited options--but there are options. Some of the options can include payment options and policy or coverage options.
